Drawing 1. Part 4. Exercise 2. Project 2. A longer study.

For this exercise, I found a suitable image in a stock album online. The album gave a 360 view of the model, so I could get a much better idea of the pose and position of the model.
As instructed, I made marks on the paper to outline where the figure would be positioned on the paper. I started with the torso as I learned in the previous exercise and drew a line where I imagined the shoulders and the spine to be. This is such a useful tip for getting the proportions correct and the drawing accurate. I used line sight measurement and checked my angles with a pencil, that parts of the body were in alignment where they should be. With my pencil, I filled in the tonal areas (although the stock image I chose was quite brightly lit) again, trying to feel my way around the form.

How well have you captured the characteristics of the pose
I think the hands and feet carry the most gesture, the hands in particular, slightly curled with the fingers relaxed, and the foot slightly resting on the stool.

Does the body have sufficient weight and presence?
I feel the figure is balanced on the stool and does look solid in places. I could probably have worked more into the tones.

Do the proportions look right? If not, how will you try to improve this?
I feel the head slightly too small and the hands sightly too big. The problem, I think came from the fact I was working in a cafe, and unable to stand back from the image I was drawing from.

For each problem I encounter, I have to find a solution to make it through this part of the course.

I drew the feet in very quickly.
